CTR British Motorcar Gathering and Picnic – 2017

With Mother Nature’s help, 95 cars and accompanying participants came to Wickham Park to enjoy CTR’s 37th Annual British Motorcar Gathering and Picnic.  The weather forecast leading up to the event called for a sunny day with a seasonable  temperature. So there was no doubt that the weather would be great. Sunday September 10th was a perfect day for the drive to Manchester. And Wickham Park looked fabulous! Thanks go to park officials and rangers for making it possible for CTR to have a successful event. In addition to the many loyal participants that come each year, there were also several new folks (and their cars) who have never been to this event. For example, not one but TWO rare Marcos vehicles graced the field. These cars were made by British sports car manufacturer Marcos Engineering. The name derives from the surnames of founders Jem Marsh and Frank Costin. There was a limited number of Marcos exported to the US. So to have two at Wickham Park was a real treat. Participants were able to buy CTR regalia, participate in raffles, and grab a hamburger or hot dog cooked up by the Boy Scout Troop from Hebron.

Young Exhibitor Awards were presented to Jacob Mathiau from Glastonbury and Max Libby from Manchester. Jacob came with his mom in a TR6 and Max and his dad drove an MGA to the event. These youngsters will receive a one year subscription to Classic Motorsports magazine with the hopes that they continue to be interested in the vintage British car hobby.

The Best of Show Triumph went to long time CTR member Dave Pettigrew with his beautiful black 1957 TR3. A great looking 1965 Sunbeam Tiger, owned by Eric Leclerc, was  awarded Best of Show Non-Triumph. A complete list of class winners will be published in a future newsletter. This event would not have been possible without the many CTR members who stepped up and volunteered their time on the day of the event as well as the months leading up to the event. THANK YOU!

We also acknowledge the many British car vendors who supplied items for the goody bag and for the raffles. Those CTR supporters are highlighted on the back page of our newsletter and on out CTRIUMPH web page. Please give them your business when you can.
